Payroll needs more people like this.

Payroll needs people like this

What do good payroll people look like? From payroll managers and team leaders to strategy analysts and CEOs I was blown away by the sheer talent that was in the room at Reward 300. The Reward 300 celebrates the best of the best in the rewards marketplace.

I’ve been very lucky to have worked with talented payroll people at IRIS FMP who have featured in the original Payroll Top 50. Payroll Top 50 was launched 10 years ago to recognise the most influential individuals in the profession.

But the payroll industry has changed and evolved to include pensions, benefits, HR and strategy and now the index has evolved to become The Reward 300.

Most business owners understand that efficient payroll is crucial to the success of their organization.

However, there is now an intricate regulatory landscape to navigate, and payroll has evolved to become a highly specialized, complicated process. Errors, costly compliance penalties and, ultimately, unhappy employees are just par for the course these days. Good payroll now demands analysis and strategic direction as business adapt new models and ways of working. The best of the best help drive the industry and payroll people to the next level.

One of the key players in the Reward 300 is IRIS FMP’s CEO, Justin Cottrell. Why does he appear in the index?

A natural people person Justin provides the vision that the industry and every employee needs to hear.  But he backs that with dogged hard work, honesty and attention to detail that inspires a right first-time mentality, essential in payroll.

Very well known throughout the payroll world, Justin is now forging an enviable reputation as IRIS FMP expands across the full rewards strategy spectrum. In November 2017 he was won a Rewards Strategy Best Leader award.

An inclusive approach sees him nurturing raw talent internally and externally to the business.  He can quickly identify someone with a spark and gives them the opportunity to develop and shine. The sponsorship of the Reward Strategy’s Rising Star Award is a testament to that.

Justin’s desire for delivering best practice and excellent customer service in the industry can be seen in his strategic approach. He ensured IRIS FMP were one of the first companies to achieve CIPP Payroll Assurance Scheme accreditation, the company delivered his desire to achieve Investors in People accreditation, and a vision to get a payroll company into the Times Top 100 companies to work for.

And he does all this with a great deal of fun and a desire to always celebrate success

The Reward 300 was celebrated in London in June 2019.
